Paddle boarding
Paddle boarding is a new water sport for me. I was intrigued after watching videos of how easy Shane navigated the board. So what is paddle boarding? Paddle Boarding engages your core muscles and builds abdominal strength and lean muscle tone. At the same time it strengthen the muscles of arms, legs, back, and shoulders. I thought why not engage in this new fun activity and start building up my muscles so I have a tone body. With this positive attitude in mind, we bundled our inflatable paddle boards and headed to Lake Hauser in Idaho last week.
Balancing Act
We were the only people on Hauser Lake except for a couple launching their kayaks. Shane pumped air into our inflatables. Then he showed me how to get on the paddle board, stand and paddle. It was a balancing act, how difficult can it be right? I went to the shallow end to practice. Boy…oh boy!!! The board moved…like yeah…it was floating on the water, of course it moved. I couldn’t stand up! I moved another foot deeper into the water and tried again…and again. This balancing act was no joke. I finally able to gingerly stood on the paddle board. Seconds later I fell into the water with both hands and knees on the sandy bottom, cutting opened my skins. It was frustrating to see Shane happily paddle boarding around the lake with a big smile plastered on his face 😛
A Week on a Balance Board
Back home, I was determined to get my balancing act perfected. I spent a week on a balance board at our local gym. On the first couple of days I held on to a bar while I stood on the balance board, moving it in all directions. My legs muscles hurt so bad but I knew my perseverance will pay off. I started to do squats on the balance board once I can balanced myself standing up. I felt like a pro watching myself in front of a mirror 😀 but time will tell if I can actually do this on a paddle board.
I Did It!
Today we invited our daughter-in-law and grandson to Hauser Lake with us. Shane and I launched our paddle boards and I went on it like a pro. I did it! I stood up and didn’t fall. Paddling the board is tricky though and will take some practice. Watch the video! LOL I’m not 100% confident standing and surfing on the paddle board but I didn’t fall either. Shane had Kiel with him on board and paddled around the edges of the platform. He wasn’t sure what to make of it yet but we are eager to bring him out again with us. Right now this boy prefers to climb up and down the board while his grandpa holds on to one end of the board on solid ground.
