Nehalem Bay
We visit Shane’s sister and her husband in their Rockaway Beach house in Oregon two or three times a year. Nehalem Bay is about a 6 miles, 9 minutes car ride from their house and it is one of the beaches we frequent. Nehalem Bay State Park is set between the ocean and the bay on a 4 mile sand pit. This bay is popular with driftwoods pile high at the mouth of the Nehalem River, next to the stone jetty. It is quite a sight to see, like a driftwoods graveyard and very beautiful. Many people come to this beach to camp and build structures out of driftwoods.
Treasure Hunt with a Metal Detector
Shane’s sister Maureen suggest we go treasure hunt with their metal detector for a different beach activity. Shane is game for a treasure hunt at Nehalem Bay. Me? I am going to take more photos of this beautiful beach and look for some small driftwoods I can take home. It is also fun watching Shane going around with a metal detector over the sandy beach. He is so excited when the detector lets out a beep. Maureen and I run over to him and lo and behold! His first treasure….or not! 😀 A metal bottle cap is what he found!!! He said the only highlight of this treasure hunt activity is having two kids excited over what he is looking around a fire pit. Fire pit? Beats me! Ha..ha…ha… The treasure Shane found for me is a big chuck of driftwood that I am going to make into a succulent planter.
Nehalem Bay Photos Opportunity
Besides the treasure hunt at Nehalem Bay, the driftwoods in Nehalem Bay make a very good photos opportunity. Another are the sand dunes and grassy spots. We have a fun time posing and pretending to be models. This is such a unique beach. We are so blessed to be so close to many beautiful beaches on the Oregon Coast.
Grilled Corns and Steak for Dinner
Back home, Maureen’s husband James grilled steaks and the sweet corns we brought from Otis Orchards. It was a delicious dinner and man…the sweet corns are so good. We are going to sleep early because we are going crabbing tomorrow.
