130 Year Old Kwan Yin Temple
Curious after seeing gilded roofs of a Chinese temple every time we drove by over the bridge, we found this temple after Google search interesting places to visit in Klang. It turned out this 130 year old temple is just a 5 minutes drive from our rented house! This amazing discovery has us in awe over the designs and architecture.
Visiting the Angkor Temples
Angkor Wat is the main reason we visit Cambodia. The Angkor Wat is the largest of all temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park. These historical sites are so vast, we only managed to cover a portion of them in a day. If you have watched Tomb Raider movie, Ta Prohm is where the filming took place and is one of the most visited temple here.
Siem Reap, Cambodia – The Locals
Our 7 days trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia is divided into 2 posts; this one talks about applying for a tourist visa, hotel stay and transport, our first impressions and visit to a wet market. We meet many Cambodians along our walks to Pub Street, the main tourist area. We are cautious about our food but make one disastrous mistake.
Malaysian Girl Celebrates Birthday
Read how our niece, a Malaysian girl celebrates her 8th birthday in the suburb of Subang Jaya, Selangor. She starts her birthday by getting up early in the morning, going shopping with her mom and I and picks her own present. Afterwards she helps bake her birthday cake and gets to choose where to go and eat for dinner.
Day Trip to Pulau Ketam
A day trip to Pulau Ketam or Crab Island in English. We took a ferry ride and explore the island on an electric motorbike. Wooden houses are perched on wooden stilts. It is nerve wrecking for me but fun for Shane when we ride through concrete pavements and old rickety wooden plank bridges. Unique sights mixed with the occasional stench.
Thank You to Our Donors
Happy New Year 2019 everyone. We want to make a special thank you post and mention our family, friends and even strangers who donated to our cause in order to help children at GIFT Foundation. We are grateful for your supports. We also explain in this post our mission and why we help the vulnerable communities.
Merry Christmas from GIFT Children
GIFT children have learned some basic English and some of them are eager to share their accomplishments by appearing on a video wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. We are so proud of them. We also list down the work we have done in December at GIFT Foundation and update on the 5 Rohingya teenagers.
Treasure Trove of Great Food
My sister Helen brings us back to our childhood place, Pandamaran to buy our mom Chai Pau for her birthday lunch. Pandamaran is a treasure throve of great food and we are giddily happy to indulge ourselves with so much food. Even Shane gets invited to help make chai pau. Watch a video of him trying to explain what a hawker is cooking.
5 Rohingya Teenagers at GIFT
UNHCR sends 5 Rohingya teenagers to GIFT Foundation under our care. We have to provide safety measures to ensure they do not escape. They are also sent for health screening. Words spread in the Champa community and they came bringing food and clothing for the teenagers. Special thanks to our friend and family in the USA for their contributions.
Our First Week at GIFT Foundation
We are back again in Malaysia and this is our update after spending a week at GIFT Foundation with the children. There have been many changes and it has been hectic and stressful; playing nanny roles and at the same time Shane attends workshops and counsels the refugees. We need to bring discipline and organization to this home.
