My apologies. I haven’t updated this website and had only concentrated on FoodTravelFamily Facebook page and Tik Tok. Cooking has taken a lot of my time away from everything. My energy level is pretty much on the lowest and I promised Shane I will take it easy for the rest of the year. With the cold temperature making its presence known, the pain from Bell’s Palsy residues has kicked in.
Taste of Bali
“Taste of Bali” is an event organized by the Spokane Public Library and will be held this Saturday, October 18 at the Shadle Park Library. An article published recently by Azaria Podplesky on the Spokesman Review wrote about our community work with the Tenganan Village in Bali and the Elementary 4 School. Shane and I are excited to share our experiences with our guests and I will even prepare some Indonesian inspired food samplers. This “Taste of Bali” event is from 11:30am to 12:30pm with meet and mingle, stories and souvenirs that we brought back to Spokane. This event is free but donations to our Bali Kids Project is appreciated.
Bali Kids Project 2024 Update
Imagine flying out to Bali last year with the idea of building a computer lap but ended up doing a lot more. We cooked at Feast World Kitchen for Bali Kids Project 2024 and set up a Go Fund Me. The school kids were excited to see us; they knew we were bringing in laptops. Our intention was to look into purchasing a few used ones in Bali but plan changed. Instead, at the school principal’s request, we donated this list below:
- 8 Laptops with Microsoft Office
- School and Sports Uniforms for 54 kids and 7 teachers and staffs
- 54 School Bags
- 1 Projector
- 2 Drones for Science Class

Music Teacher’s Salary
During our stay in Bali, a teenager from the village had an accident. The older children go to a school outside of their village. She was at the pedestrian crossing when a motorcyclist hit her. We paid for her medical bills because she has no insurance. The motorcyclist has a low wage job and no insurance either. The parents of the teenager did not want to press charges. We used our own fund for this since we know the teenager and her family. The remaining fund was parked in an account set up by our friend and priest of the Tenganan Village. This fund is used to pay for the music teacher’s monthly salary. He teaches traditional musical instruments to the older children in the village. Starting June of this year, every tip and donations from SeraiMas Bali Kids Project donation box goes into paying his salary.

Project 2025
The kids at Tenganan Village hold special places in our hearts. While the village is self sustainable, their Elementary 4 School needs a lot of upgrades. We cannot do this alone, nor are we going to make it our lifelong mission to continue donating to them.
What we hope to do for Bali Kids Project 2025 are:
- Donate more used refurbished laptops. If you have one to donate, please consider reaching out to us.
- Fill the library with more books, including reading books in English. If you are travelling to Bali, please bring some easy to read English books and donate to the village. Address the donation to our friend and village priest, Wayan Adi Gunadi.
- Fund for another 6 months music teacher’s salary. Our hope is also to get sufficient fund to purchase 2 more traditional musical instruments to complete their music assemble.
- Set up online Learn to Speak English classes.
Thank You
Shane, myself, and Tenganan Village priest Wayan Adi Gunadi would like to express our gratitude to Spokane, our friends and family who continue to support our mission to make this world a better place for the village children through education. We appreciate The Scale House Market for the opportunity to serve SeraiMas Malaysian food there. Thank you, Spokane Public Library and Spokesman Review for highlighting our mission. THANK YOU.
